It’s Never too Late to Straighten Your Smile

Braces as an adult? No way. At least, that was what I thought when my dentist told me that I was going to have to see an orthodontist about my crooked teeth. But my teeth were so misaligned that they were causing me pain when I chewed, so I decided to at least look into it. Turns out braces today are nothing like the ones my friends had when I was a kid. Mine were practically invisible, and I didn't need to wear them that long. I started this blog to encourage other people like me who are nervous about the prospect of wearing braces as an adult. My straight smile is so worth the trips to the orthodontist, and wearing braces was nowhere near as bad as I thought. Read on to find out more about how you can straighten your smile.

Wishing You Had A Better Smile? How Cosmetic Dentistry Can Help

by Jacqueline Byrd

When you look in the mirror and give yourself a little smile, you may find yourself thinking and wishing that your smile was somehow different or better. If you want to turn those wishes into a reality, you may want to look into some of the different options that cosmetic dentistry can offer you. Get to know the treatments provided by a cosmetic dentist so that you can decide if you can get the smile that you imagine when looking in the mirror every day.

Teeth Whitening

If your smile is just not as bright and shiny as you would like it to be, then professional teeth whitening services from a cosmetic dentist may be the right choice for you. When you go to a dentist for whitening services, rather than using at-home products like toothpastes or gel strips, you will get more intense whitening with longer-lasting results. The chemical whitening agents used in a dentist's office are far more potent than those you can buy over-the-counter, making their effects more noticeable.

Veneers

Porcelain veneers are also often referred to as dental caps or crowns. If you have imperfections in your teeth, like chips, uneven lengths, breaks, or even permanent stains that whitening cannot fix, veneers may be able to help. Just like the name "cap" suggests, dental veneers are attached and fitted over your existing teeth to create a more uniform and even smile. They can correct serious imperfections and even help to close gaps.

Dentures

Should you find yourself with missing teeth, whether it is a single tooth or several in a row, dentures are one of the easiest and least expensive cosmetic dentistry solutions. Dentures are custom-made to fit your mouth and gums. They are removable and fit around the gums when put in place. The artificial teeth are made of porcelain or ceramic and are designed to match your existing teeth in shape, structure and color to look as real as possible.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are a more permanent option for replacing missing teeth. Rather than being removable, dental implants are fixed in place. The implant itself is a device reminiscent of a screw that is attached to the jawbone under the gums, just like the natural root of a tooth. This metal implant protrudes just past the gum line and an artificial tooth is attached onto the abutment. Dental implants are the most realistic replacements for teeth in appearance and function.

Gum Reshaping and Contouring

Sometimes, the issue with your smile may not be your teeth but your gums. If your gums are uneven or overly long, covering part of your teeth, you can have them reshaped or contoured by a cosmetic dentist. These procedures involve cutting away gum tissue into a specifically desired shape. Sometimes, if you have recessed gums, the cosmetic dentist can also use skin grafting techniques to extend the length of the gums and give them a more desirable shape and appearance.

Now that you know a few of the ways that a cosmetic dentist could help you with your smile needs, you can give your local cosmetic dentist a call and schedule your first appointment.
