It’s Never too Late to Straighten Your Smile

Braces as an adult? No way. At least, that was what I thought when my dentist told me that I was going to have to see an orthodontist about my crooked teeth. But my teeth were so misaligned that they were causing me pain when I chewed, so I decided to at least look into it. Turns out braces today are nothing like the ones my friends had when I was a kid. Mine were practically invisible, and I didn't need to wear them that long. I started this blog to encourage other people like me who are nervous about the prospect of wearing braces as an adult. My straight smile is so worth the trips to the orthodontist, and wearing braces was nowhere near as bad as I thought. Read on to find out more about how you can straighten your smile.

Why Clear Braces Are Your Best Bet If You Have Thin Enamel

by Jacqueline Byrd

When your teeth are healthy and young, they typically have a strong layer of enamel that helps to protect them from bacteria and damage. However, with age and use, that enamel can become thinner and less effective at protecting your teeth. If your dentist has diagnosed you as having thin enamel on your teeth and you're interested in having your teeth straightened, invisible braces are your best bet. Here are the three main reasons why you should choose invisible braces instead of standard braces.

No Food Debris Gets Caught On Clear Braces

When you eat while wearing standard braces, food debris will typically get stuck on them. As food particulates brush past the brackets and wires holding your braces on, it's simply inevitable for some of that food to stick to your braces. This increases the rate at which bacteria responsible for plaque grows, and can put you at risk for developing cavities and more enamel damage.

With invisible braces, there's nothing there to get caught on when you eat. You take invisible braces off prior to eating, and then put them back on afterward. With this innovation, your teeth will be safer.

Clear Braces Are Removable For Full Cleaning

In addition to being able to avoid having food get stuck to your braces, you can also take advantage of being able to clean your teeth and gums more efficiently with clear braces. When you perform your regular dental hygiene, you can simply pop off your invisible braces and thoroughly clean your teeth. Flossing and brushing are both easier and more effective without braces in the way, so this can greatly improve your ability to protect your remaining tooth enamel.

Clear Braces Help Protect Teeth From Beverages

Lastly, clear braces can help to protect your teeth from acidic beverages. While avoiding acidic beverages entirely is a good idea, it's not always practical. Clear braces form a seal around the teeth which - especially when combined with drinking through a straw - greatly reduces the amount of fluid that actually comes into contact with your teeth. As a result, your enamel will suffer less damage from any acidic beverages you drink.

Clear braces are a great choice for anyone, but they're especially useful if you have a dental health problem like thin enamel. If you want to have straight teeth without causing further damage to them at the same time, clear braces are perfect for you.
