Braces as an adult? No way. At least, that was what I thought when my dentist told me that I was going to have to see an orthodontist about my crooked teeth. But my teeth were so misaligned that they were causing me pain when I chewed, so I decided to at least look into it. Turns out braces today are nothing like the ones my friends had when I was a kid. When you brush your teeth, use a toothpaste that contains fluoride. Fluoride will help protect your teeth and will help keep your teeth strong. It is a good idea to floss twice a day as well. However, if you are rushed for time, be sure to always add time to brush your teeth to your schedule.
2. Be Careful About What You Eat
Be careful about what you eat. You shouldn't eat things that are sugary every day, as they will break down the enamel on your teeth. That means soda should be a special treat you have a few times a year, not something you drink like water. Candy should be something you eat only occasionally, not something you mindlessly snack on. Also, be careful with things that have sugar and acid in them, as they can do long-term damage to your teeth.
Keep in mind that there are foods that are good for your teeth as well. Cheese can help reduce the pH in your mouth, helping to reduce tooth decay. Yogurt helps strengthen your teeth if you go with plain yogurt, not the sugary kind. Leafy greens can help build up your teeth's enamel and fight gum disease as well. Both apples, carrots, and celery are not only healthy for you, but they also help remove food particles and bacteria from your teeth. Eating some apples, carrots, or celery throughout the day is an easy way to clean your teeth without brushing them.
When it comes to taking care of your teeth, set aside at least four minutes a day to clean your teeth, limit sugary foods that are harmful to your teeth, and fill your diet with nutritious food that will help strengthen your teeth.
