It’s Never too Late to Straighten Your Smile

Braces as an adult? No way. At least, that was what I thought when my dentist told me that I was going to have to see an orthodontist about my crooked teeth. But my teeth were so misaligned that they were causing me pain when I chewed, so I decided to at least look into it. Turns out braces today are nothing like the ones my friends had when I was a kid. Mine were practically invisible, and I didn't need to wear them that long. I started this blog to encourage other people like me who are nervous about the prospect of wearing braces as an adult. My straight smile is so worth the trips to the orthodontist, and wearing braces was nowhere near as bad as I thought. Read on to find out more about how you can straighten your smile.

Three Things To Know About Dental Veneers

by Jacqueline Byrd

Everyone has a desire to have great looking teeth. Thankfully, there are dental procedures that can be used to fix cosmetic problems that would otherwise be difficult to change. Dental veneers are one way to do it, which is done by taking a thin porcelain shell and attaching it to the front surface of the teeth. Dental veneers are quite unique, which is why you may want to know the following three things about them.

Reasons For Dental Veneers

Dental veneers can be used to fix several cosmetic problems with your teeth. If the problems are purely cosmetic, the veneers can be placed right over the teeth without having to do any prep work. This includes problems such as teeth that have an odd shaped, are discolored, or have bad stains on them. The veneers can be attached directly to the surface and cover up the cosmetic problem that you have.

Veneers can also be used for teeth that are crooked, spaced far part, or chipped. It will give the appearance to others that your teeth are perfectly sized and straight, giving you the perfect smile that you've always dreamed of.

Prep Work Needed For Dental Veneers

All problems cannot be treated by covering them with dental veneers. Some dental problems require your dentist to treat your teeth to fix whatever problem they have. If not, the problem will continue to get worse and cause your teeth to become damaged even further. For example, if you are dealing with issues with decay, that decay will continue to spread underneath a dental veneer. The dentist will need to remove the decay and cover it with a dental filling.

If you are brightening the shade of your teeth with dental veneers, your dentist will need to perform a whitening treatment to the teeth not being covered with veneers. This will ensure that all your teeth match with being the same shade of white.

Care For Dental Veneers

You may have to change your behaviors after getting dental veneers, which includes brushing and flossing more frequently. This is especially true if veneers were needed to correct a problem caused by neglect of your oral health. You'll also have to watch what items you chew on, which includes stopping a nail biting habit if you have one. Putting a lot of pressure on the veneers can also cause damage, which comes from chewing on pens or other hard objects that shouldn't be in your mouth.
