It’s Never too Late to Straighten Your Smile

Braces as an adult? No way. At least, that was what I thought when my dentist told me that I was going to have to see an orthodontist about my crooked teeth. But my teeth were so misaligned that they were causing me pain when I chewed, so I decided to at least look into it. Turns out braces today are nothing like the ones my friends had when I was a kid. Mine were practically invisible, and I didn't need to wear them that long. I started this blog to encourage other people like me who are nervous about the prospect of wearing braces as an adult. My straight smile is so worth the trips to the orthodontist, and wearing braces was nowhere near as bad as I thought. Read on to find out more about how you can straighten your smile.

Reasons Your Child Might Need A Tooth Extracted

by Jacqueline Byrd

Taking kids to the dentist is a good idea from the time they are very young as this helps them to have healthier, stronger teeth. Dental visits are also important for catching problems, and one of the services your child might need at some point is a tooth extraction. Children may need to have a tooth extracted for several reasons, and here are some of the top reasons for this procedure.

Too much tooth decay

When a tooth is too decayed, a dentist will often have to remove the tooth only because he or she would have no way to save the tooth, and this can happen with kids or adults. One of the reasons to take your kids to the dentist regularly is to prevent this from happening. If you go to the dentist twice a year, it is hard for a tooth to acquire so much decay that it must be removed as a dentist would detect the decay before it reaches this point. Once a tooth ends up at this point, though, a dentist might have no option but to remove it.

A baby tooth is being stubborn

There are also times when kids need teeth removed simply because they are baby teeth and they will not fall out on their own. Some baby teeth fall out quite easily, while others can be much more stubborn. If your child has a baby tooth that will not fall out on its own, the dentist can easily remove the tooth for the child.

The child's teeth are overcrowded

If your child's dentist feels that the teeth in your child's mouth are too overcrowded, he or she might recommend removing one of the teeth, or possibly more. Overcrowding of teeth is not good for a child or an adult. When teeth are too crowded, it does not leave room for others, and it can increase the person's risks for cavities and a variety of other problems.

The tooth needs to be removed for braces

The other reason this might be necessary is to prepare the child's mouth for braces. If an orthodontist thinks that teeth need to be removed in order for braces to be effective, the orthodontist will recommend visiting a dentist to have this done.

These are probably four of the most common reasons dentists remove children's' teeth. If you have any questions about your child's teeth, talk to a dentist at a clinic like Dentistry For Children & Adolescents that offers pediatric dental services.
