It’s Never too Late to Straighten Your Smile

Braces as an adult? No way. At least, that was what I thought when my dentist told me that I was going to have to see an orthodontist about my crooked teeth. But my teeth were so misaligned that they were causing me pain when I chewed, so I decided to at least look into it. Turns out braces today are nothing like the ones my friends had when I was a kid. Mine were practically invisible, and I didn't need to wear them that long. I started this blog to encourage other people like me who are nervous about the prospect of wearing braces as an adult. My straight smile is so worth the trips to the orthodontist, and wearing braces was nowhere near as bad as I thought. Read on to find out more about how you can straighten your smile.

Procedures Used In Dental Implant Dentistry

by Jacqueline Byrd

Dental implant dentistry is one of the innovative procedures that has changed the dental industry. It has significantly helped people who lose their teeth due to age, accidents, or medical issues. Dental implants are synthetic tooth roots that support tops, such as dentures, crowns, and bridges.

The implants are usually surgically fixed in or on the jawbone using several procedures, and it is vital to be informed about these procedures before you get dental implants. This guide highlights the procedures used in implant dentistry.

Endosteal

In this procedure, implants that look like screws are surgically inserted inside the jawbone. Therefore, you must have a healthy jawbone to qualify. The dentist will give you time and a few medications to help your implant heal first before the top part is placed. This is the most performed procedure in implant dentistry.

Subperiosteal

As the name suggests, subperiosteal implants are put on top of the jaw. However, the position at which they are placed is under the gum. After healing, the gum will join with the artificial root, forming a base for the false tooth. This procedure is used for people who have a weak jawbone.

Zygomatic Dental Implant

The zygomatic procedure is uncommon but quite effective. It is used on patients who lack the good quality of the jawbone to sustain the two main methods above. Therefore, the dentist fixes the implant in the cheekbone, which is biologically referred to as zygomatic bone. This implant option will form a firm root as the other two and last long with proper oral care.

Pre-Procedures

If your jawbone is not ready for any procedure, your dentist can perform various pre-processes to prepare them. Bone augmentation is one of the preparation methods, and it involves restoring lost bone in the jaw. The bone to be used will be grafted from your body or processed using advanced procedures. Growth additives are also used to stimulate bone formation. This will significantly increase your jawbone's mass to the point that you can have an endosteal procedure.

A sinus lift is another common pre-procedure, and it helps regenerate the bone of the upper jaw. This pre-procedure ensures your jawbone can support a dental implant after a short time.

Dental implant dentistry started a few years ago, but it has improved with improvement in technology. The procedures used in dental implants services rely on advanced technological tools, and thus, they are more effective and accurate. Your dentist will help you choose the best implant services for you.
