It’s Never too Late to Straighten Your Smile

Braces as an adult? No way. At least, that was what I thought when my dentist told me that I was going to have to see an orthodontist about my crooked teeth. But my teeth were so misaligned that they were causing me pain when I chewed, so I decided to at least look into it. Turns out braces today are nothing like the ones my friends had when I was a kid. Mine were practically invisible, and I didn't need to wear them that long. I started this blog to encourage other people like me who are nervous about the prospect of wearing braces as an adult. My straight smile is so worth the trips to the orthodontist, and wearing braces was nowhere near as bad as I thought. Read on to find out more about how you can straighten your smile.

How to Find a Medicaid Dentist Right for Your Family

by Jacqueline Byrd

If your family has Medicaid, finding a dentist that takes this insurance is key to allowing you access to affordable dental care. The good news is many dental practices accept Medicaid, and many of these practices are within a short drive for patients for easier access to dental care. If you are worried about being able to get children's dental care for your kids, use this guide to help you. This guide can be used to compare various dental practices to one another as well.

Services

Make sure any children's dental practice you choose that features a Medicaid dentist provides services Medicaid will cover in your state. Some services that are deemed medically necessary will be covered by the insurance, while others may not be. If you choose a Medicaid dentist that offers just some of the covered services your family needs but not all of them, then you may want to seek a different dentist that offers all of them, even if they are further away.

What Medicaid covers varies from state to state regarding dental care. Speak to your Medicaid specialist regarding the dental coverage for your children's dental in your state, and compare these findings with the dental services available in your area.

Availability

Medicaid dentist practices may be closed to accepting new patients, especially in areas where a majority of residents have Medicaid services. When you call a Medicaid dentist, ask if they're accepting new patients and if not, find out when they will be doing an open enrollment and if you can get on a waiting list of some sort.

Convenience

If you have more than one Medicaid dentist to choose from, then choose the practice that is most convenient for you. This can be based on hours of operation, weekend hours, proximity to your home, services provided, and recommendations from family and friends. If you have two dental practices that can meet your needs and you're deciding between them, then choose the one that has the most Medicaid services so you're paying less out of pocket, even if it's not as close to your home as another practice.

Your insurance specialist can help you locate a Medicaid dentist near you. Do your research so you can choose the best children's dental practice for your needs. Continue to have your children's teeth checked regularly as recommended by their dentist, and if you are going to another dentist now, have your dental records switched over to another clinic once you find one.
